Week 8: Online Resources for Music Education – Google Classroom and more…

This week we had a past Music Education graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Miss Camilla Corbett come and present a lecture in regards to the various online resources able to be used by educators to enhance learning in the classroom. Camilla focussed on the different features that Google has to offer the modern day educator including Google Classroom, Google Slides, Sheets and many more.

Camilla discussed the ways she uses these in her classroom and gave examples of specific situations to use each one. At the school she teaches at, everything is online and the students all have Chrome-books. Every unit of work is set out in Google Classroom with Camilla as the administrator of each. The benefit of doing this is so students can develop at their own pace and work can be continued at home.

We then discussed the numerous ways google sheets can be used in the classroom. A specific instance which I found quite interesting was the ability to conduct tests through the application. There is a feature on google sheets which prevents students from changing tabs in their browser which subsequently prevents any opportunity for academic misconduct of this type to occur.

Google Applications Useful in the Classroom

I really enjoyed this lecture as I found it really informative and relevant to us as future music educators. I personally see the different resources that were discussed during the class as very useful and will certainly look to incorporate them in my future as a music educator.
