Part of the compositional process essential for the 3rd Assignment in my ‘Composition in Music Education’ course. The first step of creating my composition was to create an ostinato to expand upon.
I began my process by improvising an ostinato on guitar (see the below audio) and then fragmented this to formulate an ostinato which I used in the baby steps I put together for student composition (see https://ljsmusiceducation.school.blog/2019/10/22/step-1-writing-your-ostinato/)

Upon creating this ostinato for the baby steps I began my own compositional process. I began by expanding on it through motivic development and theme and variation. The main types of motivic development I decided to explore were fragmentation, retrograde, modulation, repetition and sequencing. These were just some of the techniques I mentioned in the 3rd Baby Step.
I found that by exploring these techniques and using them to create complex melodic and accompanying parts that my piece although consisting of three different sections began to form well.
