Composing from Scratch (6): Layering voices

This time I concentrated on my development and introduction of ideas in the second section and how I was going to layer them in.

I began by introducing the main accompaniment in the Cello which accentuated the key beats of each time signature change. This provided a basic feel which the other parts could provide interest over.

Accentuated part in the Cello

After the Cello part was introduced I layered in the ascending Viola part over the top. This worked well with the Cello as a significant proportion of the bass notes were also included in the Viola part.

The next part I introduced was the 2nd Violin. My main thought process behind doing this was to introduce each part in relation to their position in pitch, introducing the lowest instrument first and working my way up.

The last instrument to be introduced was the 1st Violin. Introducing each part individually meant that each instrument/player had a chance at being a somewhat solo part in the piece as well as giving the listener the opportunity to hear each of the separate parts with more clarity.
