WEEK 11: Playing with Techie Gear

In week 11 our wonderful lecturer Dr James Humberstone was nice enough to bring in all of his wacky techie gear for us to experiment with.

During this lesson I put on my dj hat and attempted to become a music producer. This lasted for about 30 seconds where I finally gave in to the fact that I was absolutely terrible at it… but hey, at least I gave it a shot.

Some other examples of techie gear I experimented with during this session included;

  • A theremin – and yes whilst I was using it I did feel like sheldon from the Big Bang Theory
  • A selection of make it yourself pedals – these included guitar pedals and adjusters which could be used to alternate the sound coming out of the instruments
  • Make shift loop equipment – similar to the equipment Lindsay Pollak had used previously

All of this equipment was really interesting to use and really showed to me how versatile music technology is and also made me think more about how we can use it in the classroom.
