Today our inspirational and highly intellectual lecturer Dr James Humberstone led a discussion into the impacts both positive and negative on people. Some of the topics we discussed included;
- How the attention span of people decreases with the amount of time they spend on social media, email and other related applications and the case of the false vibration (The false vibration is when someone thinks that their phone has vibrated but it actually hasn’t and they check it and then get distracted – I found this very interesting)
- Looked at different apps such as Wunderlist which are sort of like an electronic To-Do list where you are able to reward yourself for the tasks you have completed.
- Turning things you have to do into lists and prioritising and analysing the things you have to do into categories such as when they can be done and how long they will take.
- Keeping a notepad next to your bed to write things down to think of rather than using an element of technology.
Every aspect discussed during this class was really relevant to me and since having these discussions I have altered the way I use technology so that I live a healthier lifestyle.
